Damn. 250lbs too heavy for the Slamther to tow it on a dolly.

Oh man I hate L-Jet and K-Jet. It would be gone if it was problematic and I could finally have something with hot sidedraft weber action

Too much for the Subie too I'm sure. Might mean side of the road fuel pump and brake job if everything is good

Sorry I’m confused by this? Trailers can be towed on ferries right? So how would it be any different getting it off an island?

I don't have a trailer, or anything that can tow a trailer

No need for hate, they’re both very simple and reliable systems, though K-jet in particular doesn’t take well to sitting. They’re just easily fucked up so they get a bad rap.

In my experience, which is only with a couple K-jet cars and one L-jet car, is that L-jet can hold mixture much better, and K-jet really hates sitting. Also to never ever ever put fuel system cleaner through it, even the Bosch CIS specific cleaner. I really prefer Motronic, though I’m sure I could live with L-jet. And while they are easily fucked up, they also aren’t repairable if they actually are busted. My E21 needed a new fuel distributor, there was nothing my mechanic could do to tune it properly, it would change it’s mixture all the time.

Looks like this thing should have D-Jet. Probably similar to K, but I don’t know

BG 44k won’t hurt them, I promise. If the FD is bad, yeah you’re done. But they’re pretty reliable unless they sit too long and the seal between the upper and lower chambers dries out. More often than not, the problems I’ve found with K were dirty injectors, blocked warm-up regulators, vacuum leaks, or operator error. L is definitely easier to deal with, about the only thing that ever needs is temp senders.

I didn’t check the ad, what year? D is nothing like K, at all. D is actually a relative of the Rochester injection that was on the first Chevy fuelies, Bosch bought that from GM. Primitive computer controlled EFI. K is almost completely mechanical. D is hard to kill too, but parts are scarce.

It’s a ‘73. Ohh that is a different animal. Is that good or bad? I know nothing of Rochester injection

Well that has nothing to do with islands, and presumably you can rent such things?

Yeah that’s D, if I’m not mistaken. Not a bad thing, necessarily, just hope it doesn’t need a controller or injectors. Interesting aside: Mercedes Benz used D-jet on their V8s until ‘75, I think, and their controllers were just two VW Type 3 (Squareback, fastback, etc) controllers sandwiched together.

I’ve never actually worked on a Rochester system, but that’s the history as I understand it. Much more vacuum-dependent than L and very tricky, but the basis is similar. Load calculation based on vacuum, with a WOT enrichment switch. I was taught that L is more or less what the Fuelie was supposed to be, 20 years later.

Probably, but that would easily double the cost of the car, if not more since rental companies place some “young renter fee” on people under 25. What does have to do with islands, is that I don’t think BCAA will tow it all the way from Quadra, across two ferries to Vancouver. If there were no ferries involved, I could just get it towed for free and it wouldn’t be an issue

That reminds me of how BMW controlled the M70 V12 with two M20 computers, if I’m not mistaken.

Huh, well hopefully that was al addressed when this ones engine was supposedly rebuilt....we’ll see when I call him tomorrow. This is all making me miss the SU carb my 144 had

Bosch computers, no less, with a third, the EML, to make them play nice. They’ll run perfectly happily as a 725i if they don't.

SUs are ok, not nearly as easy as Webers. My coworker has a 122 he’s building with a B20, he’s borrowing the DCOEs from my 2002 because it’ll be a long time before that sees the road.

Oh I forgot about that part, I love that.

I had more trouble with webers than the SU on the 144, but that had more to do with jetting than anything else. It would've run happier with the 32/36 if I ever got the right jets for it.

First, those North American bumpers are a tragedy.

Second, I have family on Quadra... My mom’s cousin and her husband live there, for all I know this could be on their property! Mom is in the process of moving to Vic but won’t be there for a week or two yet, else I’d have her check it out.

How much do you think it would cost for a tow to the mainland + a train ride out to Montreal? (The correct answer is: less than it would cost for the ensuing divorce! Ha!)

Yeah, if I get it, those would have to go. Normally I’d look for an early model, $500 is just convincing me otherwise. Oh wow, that would be awesome, too bad she’s not there till later.

Haha that sounds about right, although not much less, considering the price of tows...

Wow. I’ve only seen one of those for sale remotely close to me and they wanted over $8k for it!

Save it! Please! Then hold it for a year or two until I can get it!

Oh wow that's steep. I'm gonna call later this morning and learn more about it. If it's not terminally rusty, I'm gonna try and make a rescue trip
